Standards that are relative in nature. So once you recognize the first premise that human beings have a tendency to recognize an absolute standard, the second premise should push you towards the recognition that they have to be there for an absolute standard.
And the only absolute standard that a person can recognize is the greatest conceivable being, because without that, it relativizes morality and that goes against the first premise, through time recognize that absolute standards are required in order to live in harmony.
it’s within the human being to recognize truths that we would then define as being Just.
Human beings have a tendency of recognizing a standard that is more towards absolutism than relativism, and that absolutism can only lead a person to or should, should lead a person more towards the possibility for the existence of an absolute being, as opposed to trillions and trillions of beings that essentially use a relative standard.
We know we exist. We are self-aware. So anything that has brought into existence must be self-aware. So what things could have brought us into existence?
The Answer is quite simple actually, which you know already. The fact that you exist, you know there is an existence reality. The fact that you and I exist, There is a necessary existence. There is a necessary existence because we are all contingent.
It is such a powerful argument for the existence of God that it is something that you don’t need to have a PhD to understand. If everything is dependent, you cannot explain the existence of dependent things by itself.
So a dependent thing which is dependent on their existence couldn’t have existed by themselves. So you need something that is not contingent or dependent. And that thing is something called the necessary existence, the necessary being who is independent, who is absolute by necessity.
So that is what we call our Creator, because we are a creation, we came into existing and that Creator is self-aware,
You have all the time for everything else, but you have no time for your own existence. And time to find out the meaning.
Every part of your body, do they have a purpose? Your eyes do they hear? Did you decide when you were an embryo?
The only life we are aware of, in our knowledge is on planet earth. There is no life anywhere else. until we know, we have to assume that there is planet earth. And this is because this is all we can see.
At the moment as we stand now in the 21st century with all our gadgets, and all our abilities, instruments, and everything, we know of life, nowhere else, except the planet earth.
as possible as it may be to have life on other planets, this is how possible it may be to have blue flying elephants on other planets.
There are two possibilities. Either the sun fell into its place by accident and then by accident, we ended up having life on planet earth by accident or this is all planned. It’s been designed, placed, fine tuned because the solar system is mathematical each and every single planet the sun and the moon…
The solar system is more sophisticated than the mobile device.
Yet you are willing to postulate an accident for the solar system and not for the mobile phone. That the solar system came about as an accident, not the mobile phone.
Can we conclude that a man did not make a universe? Therefore, it has to be someone out there.
How did you get to an unknown entity?
By using my rationality by using my observation, by looking around me; I’m looking at the solar system.. What we did see are the signs because we see fine tuning. Fine tuning can only exist through or by a fine tuner.
The universe and the solar system in particular is finely tuned. if it’s finely tuned, there must be a fine tuner.
What do you think the universe is? Do you think it existed by itself? Anything that begins to exist must have a cause.
The question right now is whether the universe is contingent on the cause or is it self-sufficient and- Self-existing?
We believe that God did not begin to exist. We believe God is self-sufficient, eternal, immortal, all-knowing, all-powerful. These are the attributes of God, what defines Him as God.
The necessary being is never dependent whereas the contingent being is always dependent.
If something that doesn’t even exist, how can it bring about something that does exist like the universe?
The only alternative is something. It cannot be nothing.
There are two scenes on Laylatul Qadr that are profound and engage the Angels in a way that they are not engaged at any other time of the year.
The first scene is the scene of hope, the scene of traffic where you literally have Angels transferring between the heavens and the Earth, descending upon the various Masajid, descending upon the various homes, descending upon every individual that is engaged in a state of dhikr, in the state of the remembrance of Allah and taking those names back up to Allah.
As Ibn Kathir (rah) says, what comes down on that night is everything that will happen of that year in terms of the recording of your sustenance, what you’re going to gain that year. So as you’re doing your accounting for the year and you’re making all sorts of your strategic decisions of what you want to earn that year, just as Allah decrees, every drop of rain that will fall, Allah on that night decrees every single Penny that will go into your account, your rizq, your sustenance is decreed. What will happen in terms of your lifespan, the events of the year that will come.
There isn’t anything on planet Earth that requires more attention and polishing and purifying and curing than the condition of the human heart.
The first Prophethood was heralded with open heart surgery. So Prophet would began with the purification of the heart from a physical perspective, this is why this topic is so serious.
The receptor of Islamic admonition is the heart. The receiver what receives the Islamic reminder, whether Quran or Hadith, or a Friday sermon or a lecture like this, what is receiving it primarily is your heart not your ears, not any other sensory faculty that you have.
The analogy of the human heart and how it behaves to revelation.
The motivator towards the doing of good deed is the heart. The practitioners of Islam, those who practice their religion, they do so because of their hearts that encourages them.
The prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, there is a limb in the body. If it is sound, the rest of the body will be sound. If it is corrupt, the rest of the body will be corrupt.
The place where fitnah is presented to is the human heart.
The home of happiness is the heart. If you leave your heart unattended, watch how happiness will vanish. And the opposite is true. Give your heart the attention it deserves. And watch how Allah will bring happiness back into your life
Imam Ibn Qayyim (Rah) said, who should be written with ink of gold or something more precious than the ink of gold, like the tears of the righteous believer that he sheds for the sake of his Lord.
He said, but in the human heart there is a sense of scattering that can only be gathered by returning back to Allah. And in the human heart there is a sense of loneliness that can only be erased by finding companionship with Allah.
And in the human heart, there is a sense of fear and anxiety that can only be removed by fleeing back to Allah. And in the heart there is a sense of regret that can only be extinguished by being content with Allah.
The greatest of all deeds, they are the deeds of the heart. in the absence of certain internal acts of worship in the heart that are absent, all of it will be in vain.
The center of attention on the Day of Judgment will be the human heart.
The starting point is to establish whether there is a Creator or not. For example, there’s no point of discussing with you what’s inside the building, unless you acknowledge that there is the building in the first place.
Let’s go by the foundation. in order for us to debate or to have a discussion about a possible existence of something, we first need to define what that something is before we can discuss.
Allah is independent, self-sufficient, meaning that Allah always existed. Allah is independent, meaning that Allah’s existence is not dependent upon Allah’s creation; rather we are dependent upon Allah.
If it makes sense to you, the concept of God in Islam and you believe in the existence of that God that we just spoke about and the revelation, which is the Quran, surely the best Individual, He can give us the purpose of life is the Creator.
The very fact, atheism does not exist in the real world; it’s just a mental state.
