Lessons From Story Of The Story Yusuf Alayhi Salatu Was-Salam

=================================

Sometimes people are imprisoned wrongly. Sometimes the law is guilty of finding the innocent guilty and jails them but because there was evidence in that regard or whatever it may have been in some places it could have even been corruption, not everyone in prison is guilty of a crime, remember this.

If you were to look at the story of the Prophet Yusuf (a.s) he actually prayed to be imprisoned wrongly rather than be forced to transgress against Allah.

He chose to ask Allah, o Allah I’d love to be jailed rather than to go against you. So Allah decided Subhanahu WA Ta’ala to grant him the prayer. He was jailed, he was falsely accused, he was found guilty of a crime he never committed.

But he was so content. He seized the opportunity of him being in prison doing things that were so constructive.

If you are incarcerated or if you know of someone who is there, remember my brothers and sisters use the time wisely. Praise Allah, get closer to Allah. Perhaps educate yourself speak to the others, talk about something. If you’re alone at least praise Allah gets closer to Allah, do something constructive.

Your time cannot be wasted and as for depression and sadness there is no room for it in that particular circumstance. Rather die with contentment in a happy mode than to die sad and full of stress and full of that anxiety as Allah has a plan for you.

You’re in a difficult position, make the learn from the story of the Prophet yusuf (A.S) most of it.

Similarly when it comes to his father Yaqub, yaqub alehissalaam he lost his son and he lost another son and he was crying and he lost his eyesight  and Allah subhanahu wa’ta’ala is addressing him…..

He said, “I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah, and I know from Allah that which you do not know. (12:86) O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people.” (12:87)

Those who might be separated from your loved ones, be content, yes, you may be sad, you may be upset, you might be searching, you might be working towards being reunited with your child or with your loved one but you need to know Allah has a plan for you.

When Yusuf alayhi Salaam was ultimately faced with his brothers and they were exposed, their plots and plans were exposed. So all the planning of the downfall of a person only resulted in his elevation, be content.

He said, “Do you know what you did with Joseph and his brother when you were ignorant?” (12:89) they said, “Are you indeed Joseph?” He said “I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Allah has certainly

favored us. Indeed, he who fears Allah and is patient, then indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.” (12:90)

For indeed anyone who has taqwa and patience Allah will never waste their deeds. Never waste the deeds of the good doers. If you’ve done good Allah will definitely recompense you. taqwa and kindness Allah will never ever let you down, you want contentment, develop those two, taqwa and kindness,

They said, “By Allah, certainly has Allah preferred you over us, and indeed, we have been sinners.” (12:91) and He said, “No blame will there be upon you today. Allah will forgive you; and He is the most merciful of the merciful.” (12:92)

What a great lesson in contentment!Yyusuf (as) had he not been content he would not have been able to forgive.

It is very important for us to develop the right company; we should have the good company. We should be from among those who are good company for others and this is when we will achieve contentment. Did you know that 90% of people are destroyed when they have bad company?

Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala has also addressed the matter very powerfully, very simply and he has actually said in surah at-taubah verse number 119

O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true. (9:119)

The verse number 12 of surat yunus where Allah subhanahu wa’ta’ala speaks about how man calls out to Allah when he is in need. The minute the need is fulfilled he forgets Allah, he pretends like he never ever called out to Allah.

And when affliction touches man, he calls upon us, whether lying on his side or sitting or standing; but when We remove from him his affliction, he continues [in disobedience] as if he had never called upon Us to [remove] an affliction that touched him. Thus is made pleasing to the transgressors that which they have been doing. (10:12)

So this is something that we need to take heed of may Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala make us from those who when we call out to Allah we appreciate what Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala has done. When we ask Allah to cure us we appreciate that by turning to Allah after we’ve been cured.

There is something known as awliya’u Allah, the Friends of Allah those who are close friends of Allah. Allah says regarding them they are the most content, they’ll be happy; they have no reason to fear or to be sad.

Awliya are those who have two qualities in them.

Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. Those who believed and were fearing Allah (10:62 and 63)

Two qualities:  those who believe firmly in Allah and they are conscious of Allah. When you’ve developed these two things Iman and taqwa you will not be sad, you will not have reason to be fearful, you will not be worrying at all because you know that I believe in Allah, I’m convinced. Allah will take care of me.

We have difficulty, we hardship on earth. Allah did not say he will not give us hardship. We will go through a lot of hardship but he will grant us contentment if we know how to process the hardship. look at musa alayhi salam, how long did he struggle for yet he was a prophet of Allah, his people, how long did they suffer for decades on end but they knew they were helped directly by Allah.

[ Allah ] said, “Your supplication has been answered.” So remain on a right course and follow not the way of those who do not know.” (10:89)

EP14 | Contentment from Revelation | Ramadan Series 2019 | Mufti Menk

when we joke, yes we’d like people to laugh, make sure that that laughter is within the limits of Allah subhanahu wa’ta’ala, the jokes should not be blasphemous, they should not be abusive or hurtful to any race, to any religion, to any group of people and more than anything they should not be disrespectful to Allah, to the signs of Allah, to the messengers of Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala.

The reason is if we do that we will lose contentment.

This we get from the Quran, Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala warns us in surah At-Tawba where there were people who were claiming to have joked about the Prophet peace be upon him and the messengers and later on they actually were proven guilty.

And if you ask them, they will surely say, “We were only conversing and playing.” Say, “Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?” (9:65)

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala speaks about how important it is to appreciate things people do, no matter how small they are. Because Allah Himself appreciates what people do, no matter how small things are.

When someone does good don’t forget it. How many people we have done good to they’ve forgotten but don’t realize how many people have done good to us and we have forgotten. Don’t forget the goodness someone has done to you even if it was a very small portion of goodness because Allah doesn’t forget and Allah rewards in a massive way.

Those who criticize the contributors among the believers concerning [their] charities and [criticize] the ones who find nothing [to spend] except their effort, so they ridicule them – Allah will ridicule them, and they will have a painful punishment. (9:79)

If you scoff at someone Allah will scoff at you, you laugh at someone Allah will create the environment for you to be laughed at. Where is your contentment? It’s gone because you hurt someone. you thought bad and evil about someone. Watch out.

Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala speaks of the benefit of the zakah and the charity that is taken from the Muslims. what does this zakat actually due to us? it brings about contentment when you have given with a good heart, open heart ,when you are calculating your zakat and your being miserly you will not achieve goodness.

Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [ Allah ‘s blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing. (9:103)

What is very important for us to know is when we develop a relationship with Allah, when we are conscious of Allah subhanahu wata’ala allah will grant us the ability to distinguish between right and wrong through that ability we will achieve contentment.

O you who have believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty. (8:29)

In a month of fasting, the month of Ramadan, we are asked by Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala to fast in order to develop that relationship with Allah. Fasting brings about compassion, brings about a closeness to Allah, a softness; it disciplines us, strive to develop your relationship with Allah, strive when it comes to your prayer, when it comes to your charity the giving, when it comes to your character and conduct and Allah subhanahu wata’ala will definitely open your doors.

The importance of seeking forgiveness of Allah is such that even if the punishment were to be coming in your direction it will be diverted because of you seeking the forgiveness of Allah. This is why it’s very important to keep seeking the forgiveness of Allah on a daily basis. People wonder I’m going through problems, is it a punishment or is it actually a test from Allah?

Well if you are seeking the forgiveness of Allah at all times every day it can never be the punishment of Allah, do you know why? Because Allah says

But Allah would not punish them while you, [O Muhammad], are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness. (8:33)

While seeking forgiveness, it’s impossible that what’s coming to you in terms of negativity is a punishment from Allah. It is only a test, you must relax, and you must be satisfied and content. Keep on building your relationship with Allah and understand whatever you’re going through is in order to elevate your status.

In Surat Anfal Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala also makes mention of the gifts that he bestows upon man and the fact that He doesn’t take them away until man deserves that they be taken away.

If you haven’t been become a bad person and still you lose something good you might have had that would not be a punishment of Allah, that would actually be a bigger gift in the long term from Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala.

That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing. (8:53)

Get acquainted with Allah during your days of ease and Allah will get acquainted with you during your days of hardship.

Allah speaks in surah al-anfal also about a situation where there are two parties that are fighting each other perhaps a war on a larger scale or an argument on a smaller scale Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala says

And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah . Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing. (8:61)

Two warring factions, one of them desperately wants peace with you, you doubt their intentions. There is nothing glaring to prove that they are being insincere. If there was something glaring to prove that they were insincere you would be foolish to make peace with them in a way that you were bitten again from the same direction. But if there is nothing to say that they were being insincere. Allah says inclined towards it. If they stretch their arm, seeking peace you should do the same.

Allah says lay your trust on Allah because you may not know exactly they may want to cheat you and that’s why in the very next verse when Allah says at the end of this verse that He is all-powerful and He is all-knowing, He’s all wise

But if they intend to deceive you – then sufficient for you is Allah. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers. (8:62)

Very importantly learn to please Allah in all that you do and learn to follow Allah in all that you would like to do and Allah will grant you that success in the dunya and akhira filled with the greatest contentment – Mufti Menk

EP12 | Contentment from Revelation | Ramadan Series 2019 | Mufti Menk

Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala has destroyed previous nations for various reasons and then He tells us that He would not just have destroyed certain people, had they turned to Him, had they repented and had they believed and developed their relationship with Him.

And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning (7:96)

From this, I learn that if I’d like to achieve contentment, I need two things; I need to believe in Allah and develop a relationship with Allah.

If we would like to achieve contentment we also need to look into the stories of the previous prophets, those whom Allah has destroyed in the past why Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala destroyed them? What exactly happened?

The story of the pharaoh, the pharaoh was destroyed for various reasons. He actually told people to worship Him besides Allah. He said he is the god, he is the decider, and he’s the giver of life.

So, Allah subhanahu wa’ta’ala speaks of his destruction, he was haughty, he was arrogant. These stories keep repeating themselves in the Quran for us to learn.

If you’d like contentment you need to protect yourself from the qualities of the Pharaoh.

I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right; and if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. And if they see the way of consciousness, they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they have denied Our signs and they were heedless of them. (7:146)

If you want guidance one of the qualities you need is to drop and to cut out the arrogance and the haughtiness. Don’t think you are a know-it-all, keep searching for guidance look at revelation again and again, keep looking at it and asking yourself am I following what Allah and His Messenger wanted me to follow?

Allah you need to study his names, his qualities in order to recognize him.

And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing. (7:180)

the prophet (saw) says indeed whoever is to study 99 names of Allah, Subhanahu WA Ta’ala memorize them, protect them, learn them, use them to call out to Allah, they will be granted paradise.

Do you know when you are listening to the words of Allah subhanahu wata’ala you’re meant to be concentrating, you’re meant to be listening, you meant to be thinking, you’re meant to be paying attention?

So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy. (7:204)

One very important factor that I wish to mention the Quran is so powerful that when you listen to its explanation it will seem as though someone is addressing you and your problems, your issues as though they knew your life and your problems, you will wonder; how this person did know what exactly to address? The reality is it is from the maker he knew, he knows, he will know and he created everyone. So the verses that are recited and explained coming to you will definitely impact upon you in a very very positive way regarding issues that you are facing in your life. that’s why Allah says listen attentively.

It will make sense and it will definitely impact upon you as though someone knew your your life and your problems, yes Allah does know your life and he does know your problems.

Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala in the opening verses of Al-Anfal makes mention of the successful ones those who are the true believers…

The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend. (8:03)

Two qualities; number one: develop your relationship with Allah, number two: look after those who don’t have much, the rest of the creatures of Allah and you will definitely achieve contentment and success. – Mufti Menk

EP11 | Contentment from Revelation | Ramadan Series 2019 | Mufti Menk

Allah (swt) reminds us to think of the reaction of actions we actually do. When you do something Allah saying hang on before you do it think of what’s going to happen as a result of what you are going to do. When you do this you will achieve contentment, remember.

And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do. (6:108)

I hope that this verse can inspire us to achieve contentment through being concerned about the reactions of our words and our actions before we say anything and before we act, amazing.

Allah subhanahu wata’ala always tells us to follow what is right whether the whole world is saying something else.

And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying. (6:116)

Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala speaks about consumption and making sure that you eat that which is halal.

And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. (6:121)

You want contentment? You must make sure that you consume that which the name of Allah has been mentioned upon.

Remember Shaitaan is an outright enemy. Iblis has always sworn that he will lead us astray because he was jealous. Never become jealous of another.

Be happy for others and Allah will grant you contentment. Yes, you may pray that Allah give you something similar but don’t ever pray that Allah take it away from them to give it to you because that will not happen.

When you make a mistake turn to Allah. You’ll achieve contentment. But if you make a mistake and you don’t recollect and you don’t turn to Allah how do you expect to gain that contentment? you know sin brings about temporary pleasure but it shows the seed of discontent for a long time.

Allah says the following words were so beloved unto Allah.

Qaalaa Rabbanaa zalamnaaa anfusanaa wa illam taghfir lanaa wa tarhamnaa lanakoonanna minal khaasireen

They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” (7:23)

Remember when you seek the forgiveness of Allah, when you call out to him asking him to have mercy on you, you will achieve his mercy and part of that mercy is contentment.

You want contentment? When you are standing in front of Allah look at how you’re dressed.

O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess. (7:31)

When you’ve adorned yourself as you’re about to pray it means you’ve understood whom you are standing in front of. You are standing in front of the Lord of the Worlds and another point of achieving contentment; don’t be wasteful. – Mufti Menk

EP10 | Contentment from Revelation | Ramadan Series 2019 | Mufti Menk

When the almighty has prohibited something at times we are tested by that thing dangling in front of us so accessible, its right within our reach, there’s a reason for that, Allah says when you stay away for our sake, we’re going to grant you contentment; you will be a happy person.

You’re in the condition you’re not supposed to be doing something that is otherwise permissible, do you still follow the rule? Just because it is accessible do you just break the rule? This rule applies to everything that the Almighty has laid down in terms of law and in terms of do’s and don’ts.

O you who have believed, Allah will surely test you through something of the game that your hands and spears [can] reach, that Allah may make evident those who fear Him unseen. And whoever transgresses after that – for him is a painful punishment. (5:94)

Do you know what when Allah has prohibited something?  Consider it prohibited even if it is easy for you to do. Don’t do it and see the contentment that you will achieve by being conscious of Allah and pleasing Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala.

One of the biggest problems and one of the reasons why we lose contentment is we tend to focus on the lives of others, don’t do that, focus on your own life. Remember if you want contentment stop focusing on the lives of others.

O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided. To Allah is your return all together; then He will inform you of what you used to do. (5:105)

We lose sleep over what Allah has given someone else. We concentrate on others, their good points, their weak points, we are so upset because of what’s happening in their lives, Stop it.

If you really want contentment you must make sure that you are concentrating on yourself. How’s my relationship with Allah, look at what Allah has given me, he’s given me so many things without me asking him.

It’s only when things get taken away from us that we become conscious of what Allah has given us. So let’s become conscious of it even before it is taken away. In fact insha’Allah it won’t be taken away but you will achieve contentment when you look at what Allah has given you and you realize it’s priceless subhanAllah.

Allah tells us to respect all those who are trying to earn the pleasure of Allah as well whether they are rich or they’re poor, whether they’re black or white, no matter what color they are, no matter what ethnicity, etc, I could add no matter what nationality they are, what part of the globe they come from SubhanAllah, Allah tells Muhammad

And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account. So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers. (6:52)

And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, “Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then repents after that and corrects himself – indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.” (6:54)

The fact that they believe in allah subhanahu wa’ta’ala, you treat them equally subhanAllah, you treat them absolutely equally and you greet them with that beautiful greeting.

When people are sitting and discriminating, when people are saying something bad, when they are speaking evil, when they’re actually engaged in the displeasure of Allah;  Allah tells us don’t sit with them, don’t be from amongst them, if you’re not going to be able to remind them and if you’re not going to be able to talk to them and if you’re not going to be able to help them out of the bad that they’re engaged in while sitting in a group then you better walk away.  – Mufti Menk

And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversion. And if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not remain after the reminder with the wrongdoing people. (6:68)

EP09 | Contentment from Revelation | Ramadan Series 2019 | Mufti Menk

As Muslims we are instructed to help save lives. If you save a life it is equivalent to having saved humanity at large and if you were to take the life of an innocent person away it is equivalent to having destroyed entire humanity.

Allah says And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. (5:32)

If you’d like contentment learn to help people, learn to give people such service that would save their lives.

Allah (swt) says -how important it is to remind people when they are going wrong, to remind them in a beautiful way that they are going wrong, and to correct a person that is also something beautiful.

They used not to prevent one another from wrongdoing that they did. How wretched was that which they were doing.  (5:79)

To achieve contentment never feel bad when you are corrected because if you feel bad when you’re corrected you’re never going to succeed in life. Allah says the previous nations were destroyed because they didn’t correct each other when they were going wrong.

Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’ala tells us how important it is to consume that which the name of Allah subhanahu wata’ala was mentioned upon and this is speaking about halal food and Allah says

And eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allah, in whom you are believers. (5:88)

Halal and tayyib; two qualities that need to be found in the food.  Animal rights activists speak about how badly animals are treated. if you want contentment even treat the animals with goodness. if you are not prepared to treat the animal correctly, don’t consume that. it will not bring about contentment and goodness.

Imagine treating animals that are not even consumable by us such as dogs and pigs to treat them with care and respect and with kindness is an act of worship that would achieve forgiveness and even paradise. The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him as expressly said that you treat animals with respect even if you were to consume those animals.

The day that you are slaughtering them and prior to that you make sure that it is done fulfilling all the rules and regulations that is when it will be called halal and tayyib.

If you want contentment you need to purify yourself. Don’t consume intoxicants and don’t partake of those intoxicants or from those intoxicants. The almighty tells you cut it out, leave it out. You want contentment and happiness? Don’t fall into the clutches of the devil.

O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah ], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. (5:90)

There are various bad habits that may not get to the point of intoxication but if they are harmful to your body they are not pure. Well sometimes certain things you do to yourself are actually very bad. if you want contentment cut those habits out.

I give you one simple example the habit of smoking, the habit of smoking is such that people say oh you know what well what’s wrong with it? It’s my own money that’s not your own body and the money belongs to Allah. He gave it to you you’re going to leave it on earth when you depart from this earth and you didn’t have it prior to you coming from here. so remember it belongs to Allah, you use it in a way that Allah wants and at the same time you make sure that you spend it in a way that Allah wants,

Imagine how much money you will save if you cut cigarettes, imagine how many people will actually benefit from the wealth that you are going to save. Because of you cutting out the smoking habit, the shisha habit whatever other habits may be there. – Mufti Menk

EP08 | Contentment from Revelation | Ramadan Series 2019 | Mufti Menk

Divorce is taking place more than ever before. More than half those who are getting married are actually divorcing at some point, some within the first few years of marriage.

  1. Is it because people don’t know why they are getting married?
  2. Is it because people are not prepared to sacrifice?
  3. Is it because we are focused on something we’re not supposed to be focused upon?
  4. Is it because we haven’t developed our character and conduct?

These are questions that scream for answers.

Allah says that yes, divorce may happen as a last resort. Divorce will happen, it is happening but when it does happen be even more respectful after the divorce than you were within the marriage. Because there are rights that you need to fulfill after divorce that are so crucial to your contentment.

You divorced in order to gain contentment.  If you don’t play your cards right thereafter you will lose contentment in a bigger way than what was in the marriage. So what are these rules and regulations?

  1. Be very respectful
  2. Don’t utter bad words about your ex,
  3. If their children involve make sure the custody and access is sorted out in a fair way; the person is biologically the father or the mother. They have rights. Remember to fulfill those rights with respect. If you don’t, you will lose your contentment, you will lose your sleep, you will lose your health, you will lose the pleasure of the Almighty and there is no way that you’re going to succeed

Allah says But if they separate [by divorce], Allah will enrich each [of them] from His abundance. And ever is Allah Encompassing and Wise. (4:130).

Yes, if you need to say something or bear witness for someone respectfully, privately to say this is what happened. That’s why I actually ended up divorcing sometimes. You might want to be marrying again and your future spouse might ask you what went wrong? It is their right to ask you if they want to know they might want to hear your side of the story and they might want to find out the other side as well. It needs to be presented respectfully.

in Surat Annisa Allah (swt) reminds us of something interesting regarding prayer. if you’re a Muslim you should be praying five times a day. But when we pray don’t be lazy, don’t get up in a lazy fashion.

Contentment is found in Salah. Contentment is found in the house of Allah. Contentment is found in the obedience of Allah. if you were to rush through that you would be compromising that contentment.

Allah says Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little, (4:142)

In Surat al-ma’idah, Allah (swt) Ta’ala speaks about the importance of halal, halal and Haram  to make sure that you consume that which is halal. If you would like contentment , stay away from that which is prohibited.

Allah says they ask you, [O Muhammad], what has been made lawful for them. Say, “Lawful for you are [all] good foods and [game caught by] what you have trained of hunting animals which you train as Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of Allah upon it, and fear Allah.” Indeed, Allah is swift in account. (5:4)

Eating from halal or Haram is not only about whether the animal was slaughtered in the proper way but it’s also connected to whether you earned your money in a pure way and whether there was deception in it or not.

Sometimes we get angry with people, we are upset with people. we dislike people and we become unjust with those people because of our dislike for them. Allah warns us in this regard verse number 8 of Surat al-ma’idah.

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do. (5:8)

Jealousy makes you lose contentment remember one of the sons of Adam alayhis-salam became jealous of the other. As a result he lost contentment.

Allah says And recite to them the story of Adam’s two sons, in truth, when they both offered a sacrifice [to Allah ], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], “I will surely kill you.” Said [the former], ….. (5:27)

Remember be happy with what Allah has bestowed upon you. Be happy for others. Don’t become jealous. When you were happy for others and what Allah has given them, Allah will grant you contentment. It is a very difficult quality to achieve. – Mufti Menk
